In a move to engage the agriculture stakeholders in the various programs of the Department of Agriculture that are positioned to address the most pressing issues the hog industry is now facing, DA Undersecretary for Livestock William Medrano personally conducted the cascading of the INSPIRE and BABay ASF programs in the province of Bohol.

Held in Tagbilaran City recently, Usec Medrano emphasized the importance of biosecurity measures that will address the threat of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the province and in the entire Central Visayas (CV) region.
The event gathered the key stakeholders of the hog industry in Bohol to discuss the Department of Agriculture's (DA) Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion (INSPIRE) or hog repopulation and Bantay ASF sa Barangay (BABay ASF) programs.
Medrano discussed the aims of the program which included the repopulation and recovery of the hog industry to ensure availability and affordability of the pork and its products.
Aside from the details on the biosecurity measures against the ASF that were shared during the event, financial assistance was also discussed through the representative of the DA's Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) Ms Eloisa Marie Flores.
Usec Medrano who oversees the livestock program explained that in order to encourage the hog backyard and the semicommercial raisers in ASF free areas to return to hog fattening, the DA through the ACPC is offering loan programs that are of zero interest rates payable within three to five years.
