The P10M swine multiplier and technology demonstration farm project recently broke ground, signifying the start of the partnership between the Department of Agriculture (DA) - Agricultural Training Institute (ATI), the local hog farmers, and the local government unit of Jagna, Bohol for the improvement of the swine industry in Bohol and in Central Visayas region.

DA Undersecretary for Livestock Dr. William Medrano led the groundbreaking ceremony with DA-7 Regional Executive Director Atty. Salvador D. Diputado, Jagna Mayor Joseph Rañola, ATI-7 Director Carolyn Daquio, and Bohol’s 3rd district Congressman Kristine Alexie Tutor.
The 10M multiplier farm which was awarded by DA National Livestock Program through ATI-7 to Jagna, Bohol will have a 60-sow level capacity.
Usec Medrano shared that this is part of the government’s initiative to help hasten recovery and restoration of livelihoods especially those hog industries affected by the pandemic and African Swine Fever (ASF).
“The establishment of this multiplier farm is aimed at sustaining eligible source of quality hogs that would be available and accessible to the local farmers,” Medrano said.
DA7 Regional Director Diputado said that among the purposes of Usec Medrano’s visit in Bohol is the launching of the INSPIRE (Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion) and the BABay ASF programs.
“The programs are initiative of Agriculture Secretary William Dar to ensure that our region is protected against the ASF and for the repopulation of hogs in the region, since we are ASF-free,” Diputado said.
Diputado added that the BABay ASF program institutionalizes the quick response team against the ASF in the barangay level which is also aligned with the establishment of the multiplier farm for the repopulation of hogs in areas not affected by the ASF.
The swine multiplier farm is situated inside Jagna Eco Park in barangay Tubodmar, Jagna, Bohol.
Representatives of Governor Arthur Yap, Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Larry Pamugas, and Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Stella Marie Lapiz attended the event with the rest of the municipal officials of Jagna and DA7 Division Chief Dr. Raul Migrino, and DA7 Livestock Program Coordinator Dr. Zeam Amper.###
