Alcala inspect a project area in a bid to intensify the irrigation system and make the country ‘rice sufficient’ next year.  With the progressive irrigation system, Nangel said the farmers can harvest palay at least two to three times a year.

Aetas get P60m for irrigation

The DA has allotted P60M for irrigation to encourage an Aeta community in Bgy. Villar in Botolan, Zambales to resume planting after they were displaced when Pinatubo erupted 20 years ago.  The system, which includes a ram pump that runs on water flow alone, along with hose and pipe attachments and water reservoir, is designed to cover some 800 hectares and benefitting more than 890 Aeta families

Phl gets more time to negotiate for rice QR extension

The June 30 expiration of the Philippines’ Quantitative Restriction (QR) on rice has been temporarily waived giving the government more time to conduct negotiations with other countries for its request to extend the special treatment on rice, NFA Admin. Banayo said.
